Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify concepts, theor etical frameworks, research
trends, applications and implications at clinical practice on comfort through reviewing
nursing literatures. Comfort is the positive concept cont aining strength and health
improvement, and can be regarded as a goal of nursing. Assessment , plan, intervention and evaluation on comfort should be performed on a holistic view . A theory of holistic comfort is consisted of relief, ease, and transcendence which are three technical senses, and it is consist ed of physical, psychospiritual, social, and environmental contexts. Based upon these two dimensions , the theory would be expanded and nursing intervention would be implemented and be designed to s atisfy practical comfort needs.
The under standing of comfort directly guides nursing care that is inclusive of physical,
psychospiritul, social and environmental interventions.
The theory of comfort provides direction for nursing practice and research because it
entails an nursing outcome that measureable, holistic, positive, dynamic and nurs e- patient sensitive.
